I love Halloween. My house is sooo decorated for the holiday. I hope that we get decent weather for all of the outdoor aspects of it. We will leave goodies out for all of our trick or treaters, so please swing your child past our house on Monday night (708 South Central - but all of "my kids" already seem to know where Glacier and Callie live).
I truly love parent conferences. I enjoy getting to talk with all of you about the children that you share with me. They are all great and I look forward to seeing all of you. Please don't feel rushed, but our time together will pass quickly. This year all of my conferences are back to back. This means that I will have to watch the clock to keep ALL of us on schedule. If your time doesn't work for you, please let me know and I will gladly make other arrangements (phone conferences are always an option, too). If your invitation to the conference was misplaced, you can always call the school. The office has the master list of all of the conferences (shh...don't tell Maureen or Laci that I told all of you!).
Halloween: Monday wear orange and black (or something "Halloweeny!"). We will eat our special treats on Monday so feel free to send in goodies for 18 kids.
Early Release/Conference Day: The kids get out of school at 2:38.
Please check out the maps that your children made located outside of our classroom. IF (that is a big if) I get organized there may even be some fall art hanging outside of the teachers room (created during our big painting project).
I like to keep everyone on their toes, literally. When you come to conferences, please make sure to trace your foot (yes, you may leave your shoes on). Then you will need to write down on "your foot," one thing that you are thankful for and then sign "your foot." Finally, you will cut it out and leave it for me to display on our Thankful Turkey. The kids love when I give all of you special assignments, too. Don't worry, the directions will be in the hallway.
Math: We will continue to measure shapes to determine their perimeter (P). We will test on Unit 2. We will hopefully start Chapter 3 - word problems. Homework due Friday. If you need to borrow a ruler for it, please let me know.
Grammar: We will use the thesaurus. We will learn about synonyms (words that mean the same thing- happy, glad, excited, etc).
Chapter Book: The kids don't know it yet, but I am introducing a new series. I will keep you posted.
Spelling: We will test and have homework due on Friday.
Our words all have the endings -ed or -ing. We will discuss that when a word ends in e, we drop the e and add -ing or -ed.
Reading:
All of the groups are continuing forward with the same goals from last week. We all need a little more time to finish up our current units. They have all been working really hard and I am proud of them. Guess what? The homework is due on Friday!
Special thanks: A big thank you to the families that were able to assist with our fall art projects. The kids had a blast. Thank you so much Macen's Mom, Claire's Mom and Savannah's Grandma, we couldn't have done it without you!
Report Cards: These will be given to you when we meet for conferences.
Book-It Calendars: Friday is the last day to turn the October calendars in to me - thanks! November calendars have been sent home (with the same requirements) and are due at the end of November (gobble, gobble up PIZZA). If you think about it, let me know during your conference if you like the addition of this program.
Happy Halloween!
