I am back in action. Due to computer problems my blog was temporarily out of order.
The kids all looked so cute on Black and Orange Day. Go Hornets!
MAP Testing: We will be doing our MAP testing next week. We will test 4 out of the 5 days. We basically go to the computer lab first thing everyday to do a section of the test.
Picture Day: Say "cheese." Tuesday we will get our pictures done. If you wish to purchase pictures, please return your child's picture envelope on Monday or Tuesday.
Field Trip: The kids will meet their nursing home buddies on Tuesday. They seem very excited.
Chapter Book: We just finished our first Junie B. Jones book. Ask your children about her little, monkey brother. They loved hearing about all of her shenanigans!
We will be meeting some new (literary) friends this week. We will get to know Jack and Annie and read about all their adventures in their magic tree house.
Reading: Our next story will be Teacher's Pet. It is a realistic fiction story. It ties in nicely with our continuing social studies unit about communities.
grammar - singular and plural nouns (ask your child about the noun walk that we did last week)
fluency - pay attention to punctuation while reading
comprehension - continue to practice summarizing
high freq. words - both cold eat find green little long says we table
vocab words - wonderful noises quiet sprinkled share noticed bursting suddenly
vocab strategies - look at base words and -ed/-ing endings
phonics - consonant blends with r, l & s
spelling - consonant blends (test Friday)
homework - due Friday!
Math: We will learn another new strategy to solve addition problems. We will practice the Make a Ten strategy. For example, if we have 9+3....we can rearrange the numbers and turn the problem into 10+2. It is much easier to add quickly onto the number ten. Some of the kids already seem comfortable using this strategy. We will also continue to use our Make a Ten strategy, Counting-On strategy and/or number line to solve math equations. Homework due on Friday.
Social Studies: The kids each selected a building in our community to create a water coloring of and boy did they do a nice job. I plan on displaying them in our classroom for a bit.
We will be talking about neighborhoods and cities throughout the next couple of weeks.
Thanks everyone who has been sending in special goodies just for me (I love when I don't have to share). You may need to send in some aerobics videos for me soon!!!!!
