100th Day: Monday is our 100th day of school. I already sent home a note asking for 100 small, edible items from each child. If they lost theirs, please send in 100 edible items to share with the class (like M&Ms or Goldfish). Also, please help them wear 100 items to school on Monday (like 100 .paperclips made into a necklace/belt or 100 stickers on a hat). Don't you just love my special assignments?
Monday we will solely focus on celebrating the #100!
Science: We are still discussing animals. The kids loved the experiment that we just completed. We used spoons to represent different kinds of beaks that some birds have. Ask the kids about it.
Math: We will be adding 2-digit and 1-digit numbers.
Reading: We will be reading a biography about The Life of George Washington Carver.
phonics/spelling: focus on r-controlled words spelled with -ear and -eer
vocab: brew, snug, supplies, crop, provide, earn, committee, experiments, innovations & edible (like the 100 Day Homework!)
grammar: introduce words that compare
comprehension: review how to use the Table of Contents
fluency: I have been challenging the students to read the homework assignments in 1 minute (or less). Our goal is to increase the amount of words that they read in a minute. Some of the kids have really enjoyed the challenge! One of the kids read the last assignment in 35 seconds with no errors! That is impressive.
Chapter Book: We read Junie B. Jones and A Little Monkey Business. We are starting another A-Z Mystery book.
Thanks truly great 100 days,
Jaime
