Concert: Wow, the kids did a wonderful job! I was very proud of all of them. Mrs. Blair has been working since about the first day of school on this concert. I can't wait to see what she does for the Christmas show!
It was great to see so many of you there.
Great Outdoors: Boy, is it cold outside! Many of the kids have been complaining that their socks are wet. If you have socks to spare, an extra pair or two of socks (and gloves) in their backpacks is always a great idea. Shoot, I even have room for the kids to put an extra set of clothes in their hall cubby. Totally up to you!
Book Orders: I had a hard time deciding which order to go with this month. I don't plan on sending one home next month. The orders are due Friday, November 21. If you want to order anything in secret, make sure that you clearly label your envelope (top secret, private info. etc) and write on your book order to contact you secretly when the box arrives.
Reading: We will be reading Jamaica Louise James.
phonics/spelling: work on /ch/, /sh/, and /th/ diagraphs (return homework on Friday)
vocab: filthy, fellow, executive, beautifying, renowned, kin, original, &
adorn
grammar: abbreviations
high freq. words:bought, draw, especially, minute, picture, question, sure & worry
fluency: watch for punctuation and read appropriately
Chapter Book: Babe the Gallant Pig had a very serious tone. It took a little bit of work to draw the kids into the story, but boy did they sit and listen to it. They couldn't wait to hear about Babe competing in the sheep-dog trials! Ask your child how everything turned out.
Math: Story Problems!!!!
Social Studies: " Community Governments" and "Choosing Leaders" will be our next topics. We just finished talking about laws and consequences. I got to hear some great stories about ALL of you! Drive carefully...
Bullying: We will be doing a lot of our anti-bullying activities with the 6th graders. The 2 classes got together recently and presented information about why each student would be a good "Bully Buddy." After listening to the 6th graders, I feel confident that any of them would be a good choice. Even with practice, the 2nd graders were a little reluctant to "sell" themselves as buddies. Anyhow, ask your child who their Bully Buddy is for this year.
Thinking Ahead: We will be attending the K-1 Thanksgiving Feast. This year the kids in my class may dress as a Pilgrim or an Indian. Just wanted to give you a heads-up for costume preparations! More info next week.
Thanks,
Jaime
