A.R.: Anyone who passes their A.R. test gets to put a ticket in the bike raffle. They will draw the winners at the end of the school year. The more you read at school/home, the more chances you get. Good luck everyone!
Math: We will be working on our next chapter. It is all about subtracting. We will be practicing borrowing to solve the equations. Most of the kids have a pretty good idea of how to borrow from the tens. Remind them to show their work and add 10 to the ones when they borrow (not 1).
We worked with the 6th graders again recently. The kids practiced counting money and telling time. We will do this again sometime soon.
Science: We will continue to talk about habitats.
Reading: Our next fiction story is Where is My Bagel?
phonics/spelling: oo and ou
fluency: notice punctuation while reading
comprehension: look at cause and effect
grammar: look at irregular verbs
vocab: belongings, fleeing, gently, smothered, replied, pleaded, fragrant, grunted, crave & correspond
reference skills: the kids are getting better at using the dictionaries to look up the definitions of our vocab words. Some of them are even using the guide words as a tool!
Thanks,
Jaime
Movie Report: For those of you Rocky fans (surely I'm not the only one - I wanted to name my cats Rocky and Adrian), Creed was very good!
We also watched Zootopia over break and it was super cute! If they get it in town we will gladly see it again.
