Early Out: Remember that this year we will be released at 2:40 every Friday AND the first Wednesday of every month. So this Wednesday and Friday we will get out at 2:40.
Class Count: We have three, new friends this year - all boys! We have 12 boys and 5 girls in our classroom family now. So to be safe, send in at least 18 treats (accidents happen especially when someone sends in the exact amount of treats).
Treats: One of our classmates has many allergies. Please don't ever send in peaches to school. I appreciate your assistance.
Spelling: The new list of words was sent home. Please practice the words in whatever way suits your child. Sign the homework sheet and return it on Friday - thanks.
Math: We have been practicing solving story problems. There is a homework page attached to the Spelling homework that also needs returned on Friday.
We will be using partner houses all year to help children understand number families. For example, 6 has these partners: 1&5, 2&4, 3&3 (3&3 are doubles - use the same #). The partners can also be switched (switch partners): 5&1, 4&2, 3&3 (remain the same since they are doubles). The partner house visually displays the number families.
Chapter Book: We just finished Katie Lynn Cookie Company. All of the kids took an A.R. test on it. We had the 6th graders help them!
The kids asked me to read the next book in the series, titled Frog Legs for Dinner.
Extra Clothes: Many of you sent in a bag of extra clothes for your children. Please feel free to do this if you haven't done so already.
Social Studies: We are discussing communities.
Special Homework: The containers are still circulating to 2 students at a time. They have been very interesting. Thanks everyone for helping to fill them with items that represent your child.
Printing: We will continue practicing our letters from A-Z. I am very impressed with how beautiful the kids print this year.
Enjoy the long weekend everyone!
