Box Tops: Well, we did hold firmly onto our 2nd place standing in the race for an ice cream party. Congratulations to the 5th graders who brought in 1,243 box tops. As a school, we gathered 4,121 Box Tops to purchase special items for the school. Thanks everyone for your participation. (If you get more labels, please feel free to send them in still and I will give them to Miss Hurley for next year - I promise!)
Penny War: We have not seen the official results, but we had a pretty, big "lead" on last place! Oh well, it all helps the BPA.
Chapter Book: We read another Katie Lynn Cookie Company book The kids really enjoyed hearing about the bake off that Katie Lynn and Tina were in. We sent home the recipe for their interesting winning entry. Anyone want to make it and send it in for us to sample? Anyone?
Math: We will continue to do graphing activities. This week we made a human bar graph - cool huh?! We will study horizontal and vertical bar graphs. We will also learn how to read circle graphs (aka-pie graphs). Homework due Friday!
Spelling: We are studying homophones this week (words that sound alike but are spelled differently and have different meanings). Test Friday/Homework due Friday!
Grammar: We are working on adjectives still (and homophones). We are also talking about figures of speech/figurative language.
Phonics: We will continue to discuss base words and their endings (suffixes).
Science: We will be learning about the life cycles of a variety of animals (frogs, butterflies and dragonflies). We will learn about the following vocab. words - offspring, larva & pupa.
Clothing: A few of you have sent in extra clothes for the waist down in a labeled Ziploc baggie - thank you!
Have a wonderful weekend!
