Happy Thanksgiving! I can't wait to sink my teeth into some more turkey (ok, and maybe some pumpkin pie with whipped cream)! The feast that Ms Debbie made for us the other day was super delicious and has me anxious for the next one.
Our Feast: Please help your child dress like a Pilgrim this Monday. We will have a morning feast with the Pilgrims and the Indians from kindergarten and first grade. Please send in 5 snack-sized Ziplocks with a small handful of Craisins. Early Out: We get out at 2:35 on Tuesday. We have off the remainder of the week. We will return to school for one last day in November before we start Christmas season (I am already in a panic about ALL the things that I need to get done in Dec.)! Map Testing: We will also return to MAP testing. Our days are the 30th, 1st, 9th and 10th. This "week" will be a continuation of skills that we were working on last week. I am not crazy enough to start something brand new. There is no homework this week! Reading: We will revisit favorite stories. Math: We are talking about shapes again. Soc. Studies: Thanksgiving Grammar: Abbreviations Spelling: Review words from the past I am thankful for my family, students and my job. Thanks everyone for all of your support. Jaime It was so nice to see ALL of you at conferences! I was thrilled that I got to meet with a family member for every child in our class. I enjoy spending my days with your children so it is especially nice to get to visit with their families occasionally.
If you happen to drive past my house, you may notice that "we" have started decorating for Christmas! Noah and Talon surprised me last night and pulled out a bunch of stuff. It is looking rather festive (they even put the Halloween decorations away - they jammed all of them into a bag, even the fragile ones.). Veterans Day Concert: Wow, what a great job Mrs. Blair and the classes did. I was so proud of them! It was nice that so many of you were able to attend that also. Thanksgiving: We will be having a feast again this year with the first graders. The kids can dress-up like Pilgrims. I will be sending home a note soon asking for food supplies. I know for sure that I will be begging some of you to send in pumpkin muffins. We thought that the kids might like those instead of cornbread this year. I wanted to give you time to think about what you have that would work for a Pilgrim costume. The feast will be on Monday, November 23. Fall Carnival: Nov. 13 from 6-8 p.m. in the elementary gym. The high schoolers have organized it. Fall Carnival: Nov. 13 from 6-8 p.m. in the elementary gym. Great Outdoors: Boy, it turned into winter! Many kids have been complaining about wet feet and hands. If you have socks and gloves to spare, an extra pair or two in their backpacks is always a great idea. A few of the kids have been really thankful that so many of you sent in extra clothes for them to keep at school. Book Orders: I won't be sending home an order in December. This order is due the 20th. If you want me to hide any of the items from your child please make sure to let me know. I can always contact you secretly when the order arrives. Reading: We will be reading Jamaica Louise James. phonics/spelling: /ch/, /sh/, and /th/ digraphs grammar: abbreviations high freq. words: bought, draw, especially, minute, picture, question, sure & worry fluency: watch for punctuation and read appropriately homework: due Friday Chapter Book: We completed another Magic Tree House story. The kids love hearing about the places that Annie and Jack travel to. Math: We will finish our unit on story problems (of course, we will do story problems ALL year). We will start a unit on geometry. Social Studies: We will continue to talk about laws and consequences."Community Governments" and "Choosing Leaders" will be the upcoming topics. Thanks, Jaime Hi Everyone!
I was so excited that every child was represented at Parent Conferences. It was super nice to get to spend time with all of you. Thanks again for helping to decorate our Thankful Turkey. If you didn't get a chance to look, we have lots of artwork out on the walls. We also have the Fall Art proudly displayed on the bulletin board in the entryway. The paintings were done with our parent helpers! Veteran's Day Program: The kids and Mrs. Blair have been working super hard on preparing for the show. It will be held on Veteran's Day at 12:10. Everyone is welcome to join us at the Senior Center. Spelling: Review Words. Homework and test due on Friday. Social Studies: We will begin a unit on "Our Government." Reading: A skills review week.
