We have one last week for collecting our Box Tops. We aren't looking good. We are still in fourth place. One of the girls said that she wasn't going to waste her time bringing in anymore Box Tops. She said that she is going to save them and see if they have a better chance of winning next year. Talk about planning ahead!
100th Day of School: Our 100th day will be on Monday, Feb. 2. The school is going to celebrate with cupcakes. Would anyone be interested in baking a dozen cupcakes for us? If so, please let me know sometime this week so that I can plan ahead.
Chapter Books: The kids have been carrying around chapter books like I carry around chocolate. They are eating them up. I am so happy to see them sitting and reading them independently every chance they get.
We just finished The Absent Author from the A-Z mysteries. Ask your child who Mavis Green and Wallis Wallace are.
Math: I hated to see our geometry unit end. They really loved it. We are now working on adding ones, tens and hundreds. We will be adding 2 digit numbers, too. We have also been working on rounding #'s up/down.
Science: We will be discussing how animals' needs are met.
Reading: Our nonfiction story this week is Ah, Music!
phonics and spelling: oi and oy both stand for the /oi/
comprehension: look at main ideas and details
vocab: attract, territory, volume, expression, creative, performance, concentrate, relieved, universal & audible
resources: I introduced the Thesaurus. Some of the kids look for reasons to use it.
homework: Reading/Spelling homework is due on Friday - thanks
Forgive me if this needs an editor. I typed it with a sick, crying child on my lap. I hate the germs of winter!!!!! I have really been encouraging your children to make use of the germ killer in our room. We still desperately need wipes for hands/desks.
Thanks,
Jaime
