Hi Everyone,
We have had a very fun and busy week. I expect next week to be more of the same.
Class Play: You are all invited to attend our show, "Neighborhood News." Please join us on Friday, October 9th at 2:00. Please be in my classroom at 2:00. The kids are so excited.
The kids selected their roles in the play. Some of the roles are more involved than other roles. However, everyone does have a part in the play.
Chapter Book: We just finished reading The Absent Author. It is the first book in the A-Z Mysteries. I don't like all of the books in the series so I am selective. The kids loved the first book. Now I am exposing them to another series. We just started a book from the Pee Wee Scouts. They are like the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts mixed into one group. The first chapter book of the year the kids liked, but now they beg for me to read more. They are hooked on chapter books!!!!
Reading: Our next story is an autobiography titled, Mia Hamm Winners Never Quit.
comprehension - making predictions
grammar - nouns
vocab - technique, specially, struggle, traction, agile, spectator, competitive & worthwhile
high freq. words - brother, caught, cheer, learn, lose & straight
Spelling: Our words are long /i/ words spelled with ie or igh. The test will be on Friday.
Math: Chapter 2 is about measurement. We will be using the centimeters on our rulers. We will learn how to measure the perimeter of triangles, rectangles and squares. The kids feel so grown-up when we do this.
Science: Ask your child about the fun sorting activity that we did. We sorted our shoes into different categories. We had to think like scientists. We will be working on our plant unit. We will be looking at what plants need to survive (air, water, food, space & sunlight) and the parts of a plant.
Homework: Homework packet is due Friday, thanks.
Progress Reports: These were mailed home to all of you.
See you at the homecoming game (if the weather is nice)! Go Hornets!!!!!
Jaime
P.S. - we have 7 boys in the class and 6 girls.
