Early Out: Tuesday is picture day and the kids get out at 2:35.
Conferences: The conference sheets were sent home. Please send in your replies by Monday, if you have not already done so. If you don't know what time your conference is scheduled for, please contact us or Ms. Maureen.
Conferences will be standing room only. I don't have a great spot to put chairs outside of the room. As usual, I apologize for having to watch the clock, but 10 minutes goes by so quickly. Miss Galt will also be in attendance at the conferences as an observer.
There will be another special assignment for you. We will have clipboards with stationary attached. Please write your child a nice note to put in their desk.
Coloring Contest: Congratulations to Miss Claire for winning the February coloring contest sponsored by the hospital.
Box Tops: We are in the final stretch and holding onto second place.
I think that this is the last week for the Box Tops.
Clothes: Yep, I am at it again. We don't have as much space in the room for extra clothes, but we definitely need at least a change of socks, pants and underwear. Please put them in a nice Ziplock bag, labeled with your child's name on it. It is soooo wet outside and the kids are miserable in wet socks and pants.
A.R.: Honorable mention to Claire and Mary Jane, they are in the top 15, highest A.R. scores in the school. They are neck and neck at about 70 points. I am very proud of them. Amy and Joseph are in the top 30 with around 40 points. Way to go ladies and gentlemen!
The A.R. website is https://hosted258.renlearn.com/170380.
Spelling: We are doing -or words. The test and homework are on Friday again.
Grammar: We are learning about using commas in a series of verbs and/or nouns.
Math: We will finish up our unit on telling time. We will start our graphing unit. I always find that the kids love this unit. We are starting with picture graphs. The terms that we will focus on are more and fewer.
Reading: Homework Due Friday!
Spy Kids: We will be reading historical fiction stories about Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King. Our vocab words are slave, free, moss & cart. We will work on the short /u/ sound. We will practice reading the -ed suffix. We will continue to discuss story elements (setting, characters, plot, problem and solution). We will practice reading with accuracy and fluency.
Thundermans: We are reading a fictional mystery called,
The Case of the Missing Cards. We will practice reaing words that end in silent -e. We will practice summarizing information. We too will look at story elements. Our vocabulary words are detective, impressed and mystery. We will discuss the phrase, "eager beaver."
Chapter Book: The kids have been introduced to a new series, The A-Z Mysteries. They seemed to enjoy it. There are so many books in the series.
Enjoy the long weekend. See you Tuesday!
