I am very happy with how well all of your kids are working. Thanks everyone for doing such a nice job with your "special" homework assignment. I learned a lot of great stuff about the class.
No School: There is no school on Monday due to the holiday. Sounds like a good day to head to a rodeo! That is where I plan to be.
Open House: Everyone is invited to join us Thursday night for Open House. From 5-6 your child will have the opportunity to share their school with your families.
Spelling: The kids did a great job preparing for our first test. Please remember that the homework is due on the last day of every school week. Please return the homework this Friday. Our words are all words with a short vowel sound - not, best, run, bed, spot, get, mud, ten, duck & job.
Reading: Our story will be Frog and Toad All Year.
Phonics skills: short /e/, /o/ and /u/
High Frequency Words (words to memorize): covered, everything, guess, through and woods
Comprehension skills: discuss characters
Vocab words: ventured, described, edge, hesitate, anonymous, unselfish, satisfied & neighborly
Grammar skills: discuss statements and questions
Homework: Your child has a small reading to complete. Please have them read it to you at least 3 times throughout the week. Sign the paper and return it on Friday.
Chapter Book: We just finished reading The Secret Ingredient by G.E. Stanley. Ask your kids about Katie Lynn and her friend Tina.
A.R.: We all took an A.R. test on last week's reading story, Arthur's Reading Race. The kids did a great job!
When the kids complete stories throughout the year, I will encourage them to take an Accelerated Reader (A.R.) test that has comprehension and vocabulary questions about the story. It inspires many of them to read books on their own. They may test on books that they read/listen to at home, too.
Social Studies: We have been learning about communities.
Vocab words: community, citizen, rule, role, fair & responsibility
Math: We will be working on counting- on to find the solution to our equation. We will also continue to talk about math partners and totals. Math homework is due Friday.
Thanks everyone!
