Egg Drop: May 17, weather permitting, we will have our annual Egg Drop. The note with all of the directions was sent home today for those of you who need lots of preparation time. If you are willing to assist with judging, please drop me a note. It is a messy job, but the kids love you for it.
Mother's Day: Moms, please join us on May 12 at 1:45-dismissal for a gathering in your honor.
MAP Testing: Monday and Friday we will take the math portion of the test. They really did great on the Reading portion - you will get the results at some point (like my very specific info!).
Field Trip: I am so excited. We are almost all set for our May 23 field trip to Exploration Works and Sleeping Giant Lanes. I will remind you later, but please make sure that your child has a pair of socks that day for bowling. The permission slips are due by Friday the 12. Thanks in advance to everyone willing to chaperone; however, we are covered. If you want to be around for something fun, join us on Field Day.
P.E.: We are mainly outside now for p.e. Please have your child wear tennis shoes to school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays - thanks.
Math: We will continue to discuss fractions and we will be practicing measuring. Homework due Friday.
Reading:
Spy Kids: We will continue to read a series of fictional mysteries. Our high frequency words are another, any, covered, everyone, very & you've. We will continue to discuss the story elements and work on improving our fluency rates.
Thundermans: We are reading a nonfiction story about ants. Our high frequency words are above, accident, chamber, change, duty, entrance, imagination, label, treasure and weight. Our vocabulary words are collapse, colony, community, dawdle, except, survive and life cycle. We too will discuss the story elements and work on improving our fluency rates.
A.R.: The last day for taking A.R. tests (that count towards the awards ceremony) is May 12. Your reading homework is to read a story or 2 at home and take an A.R. test here or at home.
Grammar: We will continue to review grammar skills that we have learned this year.
Spelling: It is a real variety show this week - oa, ow, ee & ea. We will test on Friday.
Chapter Book: We have been reading the Danger Joe series. The kids have enjoyed reading about Danger Joe and his son Joe Jr.
Have a great weekend. You are so close to being done reading my Newsletters.
