Oh my goodness has it been busy around here! We had a wonderful assembly yesterday called Montana Shakes! The kids enjoyed it and the workshops that followed.
The field trip was amazing, too! We are so glad that the Tintina invited us for a visit.
Field Trip: There is a permission slip for our BIG field trip to Bozeman on May 27 . Please return the slip on Monday and make sure to mark if your child wants a school lunch that day. Debbie makes great packed lunches - I am ordering one from her for sure!
Reading: We will be reading The Lizard and the Sun (a folktale).
comprehension: continue to practice making inferences
grammar: contractions
phonics/spelling: long vowel /a/
break, sleigh, they, steak, eight, obey, great, neighbor, prey, weigh
*disobey, weightless, eighteenth, they've & neighborhood
vocab: squatted, chilly, peered, scampering, discovery, majestic, budge, entire, bizarre & extravaganza (love this one!)
Reading and Spelling homework are due Friday! Only 1 point was missed this week on our spelling tests. The kids finally earned themselves a headstand - yep, I can still do one!
Math: We will continue to work on tables, picture graphs, bar graphs and circle graphs (pie graphs). Homework this week!
Please continue to practice time and money over the summer. These are tough skills for a lot of them and will be tough stuff again in 3rd grade if they don't keep practicing.
Science: We have been discussing rocks and soil. We will continue to do so.
Funny vocab moment: While reading a chapter book to the class, we encountered the word fatigue. I asked if anyone knew what it meant. One of the boys raised his hand and looked at me like I was crazy, he said, "It is a kind of tea!" They probably do carry some in the tea isle at Walmart! It would be a good name for tea that wakes you up!
Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) Stories: We read one recently that most of the kids enjoyed. Then we were invited to hear the 6th graders read their own CYOA stories. The kids were so impressed (so was I).
* We went up to 6th grade today and played the board games that they made. Ask your child about it.
New Student: Please add 1 more student to our class list. We now have 14 kiddos. Wyatt has recently moved to WSS. The kids are all being great friends and trying to teach him the ropes.
